What is Uninsured Motorist Coverage in Florida?

Uninsured Motorist

My name is Eric, and I’m a personal injury lawyer in South Florida. This is one important tip that I tell all of my clients to do. There’s a certain type of car insurance called underinsured or uninsured motorist coverage. That is a form of car insurance coverage that is there to protect you if the other person who caused the crash doesn’t have insurance or doesn’t have enough insurance. In that scenario, the other person is considered an uninsured or underinsured motorist. And if you’ve purchased that insurance through your own insurance company, that coverage essentially stands in the shoes of the other driver. It’s as if that person did purchase car insurance. So if you’re injured in that accident, you can make a claim against your own insurance company for your medical expenses and pain and suffering, even though the other driver wasn’t carrying any insurance or didn’t carry enough insurance. I tell all my clients to call their insurance company and make sure they have that coverage.
