What Are the Consequences Dangerous Driving In Florida?

DistractedDriving7

The Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles reported that of the estimated 41,000 car accidents that occurred in Broward County, Florida in 2019, more than 5,400 of these accidents took place in Fort Lauderdale. After Miami, Fort Lauderdale had the second-highest number of accidents that year. The following article will discuss some of Fort Lauderdale’s most dangerous roads, highways, and interstates to prepare you for your travel in the area and will also highlight two serious recent car accidents that occurred on one of these highways.

Fort Lauderdale’s Most Dangerous Roads, Highways, and Interstates

There are a number of roads in Fort Lauderdale that can be dangerous and which contribute to the high number of car accidents in the area. For example, the two intersections of A1A and Las Olas Boulevard and Atlantic Boulevard and U.S. 1 are very dangerous and result in thousands of car accidents in any given year. This is likely due to the fact that these two intersections are near the beach, which could cause drivers to become distracted and get into an accident. Additionally, highways and interstates, such as I-95 south, Everglades Parkway, and the Florida Turnpike, can prove very dangerous, especially because of the high numbers of tourists who visit Fort Lauderdale.

A Look at Two Recent I-95 Fort Lauderdale Accidents

To better illustrate the dangers lurking on these Fort Lauderdale roads, the following section will discuss two recent accidents which occurred on I-95 south.

Last week, a driver suffered serious injuries after driving off the entrance ramp to Interstate 95 in Fort Lauderdale. The driver had lost control of her vehicle and crashed through the barricades and the wall. Her vehicle landed on its roof on the right side of the shoulder facing southbound. The driver was transported to the hospital where she was treated for serious, but not life-threatening, injuries.

Ironically, the wall that this driver had broken through had just been repaired as a result of another accident that happened in the same area just the day before. On the day preceding the accident with the female driver, two men were injured when their Cadillac SUV drove off the same entrance ramp. These men were also transported to the hospital with more serious, but not life-threatening, injuries. The current status of their injuries is unknown.

The I-95 south ramp is expected to remain closed until the appropriate repairs are made. The Florida Department of Transportation has stated that it is aware of the problem and that it will investigate and take the proper action necessary to prevent these types of accidents moving forward.
